As you may know, some highly selective colleges including a few Ivy League colleges were named today by the United States Department of Education as under investigation for violations of Title IX due to their handling of sexual assault cases on their campuses. This is absolutely not a list a university wants to be on and with the release of the school names, its sure to gain more traction in the press. So which highly selective universities are among the 55 colleges named by the Department of Education today? The University of California Berkeley, Emory University, the University of Chicago, Amherst College, Boston University, Harvard College, the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dartmouth College, Princeton University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Sarah Lawrence College, Carnegie Mellon University, Swarthmore College, Vanderbilt University, the College of William and Mary, and the University of Virginia were all among the 55 universities named. So of the eight Ancient Eight universities, three Harvard, Dartmouth, and Princeton made this unfortunate list. This of course does not come as a surprise to many in the Dartmouth community, with the issue of sexual assault a leading contender for why applications to the College on the Hill may have dropped this admissions cycle. Parker Gilbert, formerly of the Dartmouth Class of 2016, was recently tried for raping another Dartmouth undergrad. He is the son of a major Wall Street tycoon an d was found not guilty. Does it surprise you that three of the eight Ivy League institutions were named to this list? Do you see a commonality among these colleges? Does it surprise you that some of the most prestigious public universities the University of Michigan, the University of California Berkeley, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Virginia all made this terrible list as well?
